Programmes description

The institute supports three formats of scientific activities. Namely, thematic programmes, Research in Paris, and doctoral training.

The Institut Henri Poincaré offers substantial financial support as well as logistical support for the organisation of these programmes, with the objective of creating the most favourable environment for the exchange of ideas and international scientific collaboration.

The projects will be evaluated by the IHP Scientific Advisory Board on the basis of several criteria, including scientific relevance, topicality of the subject, pedagogical value and interdisciplinarity. The Committee will pay particular attention to parity and diversity.

Each year, several thematic programmes lasting three, six or twelve weeks are selected for their scientific excellence, their thematic relevance and their original and innovative character by the IHP Scientific Advisory Board.

The objective of the thematic programmes is to develop an in-depth reflection on a cutting-edge research topic in the field of mathematics or theoretical physics. The IHP is open to all disciplinary fields around mathematics, physics, computer science and their interfaces with related disciplines (biology, climatology, neurosciences, etc.).

Coordinated by an organising committee of two to four researchers assisted by an international scientific committee, a thematic programme can last three, six or twelve weeks and can welcome between fifty and one hundred and twenty international scientists for conferences, courses and seminars.

In the tradition of the Research In Pairs programme in Oberwolfach and the Research In Peace programme at the Mittag-Leffler Institute, this programme is ideal for developing or finalising a project with a small group of collaborators (two to four people) who are geographically distant and can gather at IHP over a period of one to six weeks.

The Institut Henri Poincaré supports a high-level doctoral training programme in mathematics and theoretical physics that complements the training offered by existing doctoral schools.

If you have a project for a doctoral course that takes the form of lectures or intensive work groups, the IHP encourages you to submit your project. The target audience for these courses will include advanced master students, doctoral students, young researchers. The courses will preferably take place at IHP (Paris), CIRM (Luminy), IESC (Cargèse) or at the École de physique des Houches.
